Everything that has moving parts must be maintained. It could be a
door hinge or wheel bearings. The Cellar Saver is no different. In fact,
the Cellar Saver may need a little extra attention because of where it
lives. Think about it, the Cellar Saver is placed in the worst possible
environment in your house! Do you have any idea what resides in a
sump well? You guessed it! Spiders, Centipedes, dust,  dirt, mineral
deposits and moisture to name a few.
The Cellar Saver was designed to last a very long time. The only
thing that can cut its function short is to forget about it after its placed
in the sump well.  The Cellar Saver should be tested at least once
every few  months. During the test, it would a good time to spray it with
household cleaner such as Mr. Clean and rinse it with a glass of
warm water.
Leave the Cellar Saver mounted on the flow pipe and remove the
swing arm by grasping the arm with your fingers and pushing the
center pin with your thumb. The center pin, and swing arm pivot hole,
should be cleaned with a tooth brush if dirt or mineral deposit are
noticeable. Be sure the swing arm moves freely. After cleaning you
may apply a small amount of silicone spray to the hole and center pin.
